Why OI exists

Disposal wells and reclamation trains do not fail politely at 9am. They plug, cavitate, gas-lock and drift past permit at 3am with nobody in the yard.

Operational Intelligence was written on live equipment to close that gap: a control layer that keeps watching when the last truck leaves, understands what each well can physically take, and has the authority to slow a pump or close a valve before a permit exceedance or an equipment failure becomes real.

It is deliberately unglamorous engineering — deterministic rules, documented thresholds, an audit log of every action, and a PLC that will not let software exceed a mechanical limit.

Design principles

  • Deterministic first. Rules an engineer can read, test and sign off.
  • Edge resident. Full function with the internet down.
  • Act, then tell. Correct inside the safe band; escalate outside it.
  • Permit is the ceiling. Throughput is maximized under it, never through it.
  • Everything is logged. Rule, value, action, timestamp.
